11-time title winners chase summer deal for Everton star who will be a free agent - report

Vitalii Mykolenko could be set to land himself an incredible deal if he leaves Everton this summer.

As of right now, all of the Toffees’ recruitment focus will be fixated on the winter window, with Everton yet to add any new quality to their squad.

The Blues are one of only a handful of teams yet to make any additions, despite the lack of depth having been exposed several times already this season.

However, a lot of the talk has been in regard to players moving on from the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and the latest update on Mykolenko fits that bill.

LaLiga giants want summer deal for Vitalii Mykolenko

Mykolenko has been far from his best for Everton this season, and yet the Ukranian has started 20 times for the Toffees this season.

Mainly due to David Moyes’ unwillingness to hand Adam Aznou a fair run in the team, it has to be said.

However, Mykolenko’s deal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is up at the end of the campaign, and according to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are keen to take him to Spain on a free transfer.

Moyes has previously expressed a desire to keep Mykolenko at Everton, but the chance of playing Champions League football and having a genuine chance of winning league titles could be too good to turn down for the Ukrainian.

Atletico Madrid have won 11 league titles throughout their history, though the last one was back in the 2020-21 season.

With six months left on his deal, Mykolenko can sign a pre-contract agreement with the LaLiga outfit.

Has Mykolenko warranted a new Everton contract?

It wouldn’t be fair to say that Mykolenko has had a bad season for Everton, though it would be perhaps just as unfair to claim that he has had a good one.

And that is only backed up by his Sofascore data in the graphic below.

Mykolenko’s 1.35 tackles per 90 actually place him in the bottom 60 per cent of full-backs in the Premier League, with his other defensive stats doing very little to bring that up.

This summer would be a good time for the two parties to go their separate ways, though it would require the Toffees to sign cover in that area.

And that is something they have struggled to do over the years on either side of the defence.
