AC Milan v Inter Milan: Nigerian music star receives special No.10 jersey honour before derby

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema received a special welcome from Inter Milan ahead of their fierce clash against AC Milan in the iconic Derby della Madonnina, Soccernet.ng reports.

The “Calm Down” hitmaker was presented with a customised Inter shirt bearing the famous No. 10 at the club’s facilities in Milan before the derby at San Siro, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.

Videos shared on Inter Milan's official social media account ahead of the game showed the Nigerian superstar smiling as he held up the black-and-blue jersey with his name printed on the back.

In the video, he said, “It's your boy Rema all the way from Nigeria, and I'm here with Inter Milan. Let's go! Thanks for having me, Inter friends. let's go!”

Rema, widely known for global hits such as Calm Down, has often expressed his love for football and appeared thrilled by the recognition from the Italian giants.

The No.10 shirt carries huge significance in football, traditionally worn by creative playmakers and club legends, making the honour even more symbolic for the Nigerian.

AC Milan v Inter Milan drama follows celebrity moment

Rema’s appearance came just hours before the highly anticipated Milan derby between Inter and AC Milan at the San Siro.

However, the night ended in disappointment for the Nerazzurri as AC Milan secured a narrow 1–0 victory over their city rivals.

The only goal in the game came in the 35th minute when Youssouf Fofana sent a through pass to Pervis Estupiñán, who pulled the trigger from inside the box to the left top corner of the goal. This also made it the defender's first Milan goal.

The defeat slowed Inter’s momentum in the Serie A title race, while Milan closed the gap with their rivals in the Serie A standings, with 7 points behind the table-toppers, Inter.

Despite the result, for Nigerians, Rema’s appearance remained one of the standout off-pitch moments surrounding the derby.
