Ademola Lookman: Atletico Madrid make late push as Fenerbache face final hurdle
Fenerbahçe are pressing ahead with plans to sign Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman after reaching a broad agreement with Atalanta, Soccernet.ng reports.
While the Istanbul giants have made crucial breakthrough in talks, there remain key details unresolved as interest from Atlético Madrid resurfaces late in the window.
The Turkish Super Lig side have verbally agreed a deal worth around €40m for the 28-year-old, but the transfer is not yet complete. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the clubs are still negotiating the structure of the payment, with Atalanta yet to approve the terms proposed by Fenerbahçe.

While the overall fee has been accepted in principle, discussions are ongoing over instalments, guarantees and timing; factors that have slowed progress at the final stage.
That delay has opened the door to renewed interest from Atlético Madrid. The La Liga side, long-time admirers of Lookman, are understood to have made contact in recent hours to request details of the proposed deal and assess whether a late move is feasible.
A switch to Spain could appeal to Ademola Lookman, who has spent much of his career in England, Germany and Italy and may be tempted by the prospect of playing in La Liga.

However, sources told Soccernet.ng that Fenerbahçe are prepared to offer a salary package that Atlético would struggle to match; a factor that could prove decisive if the deal reaches a straight choice between the two clubs.

Ademola Lookman key to Fenerbahçe’s title hopes
Fenerbahçe are more determined than most to secure Lookman as part of a decisive winter push in their bid to reclaim the Super Lig title
Unbeaten after 19 league matches, Domenico Tedesco’s side have scored 43 goals, the same tally as fierce rivals Galatasaray, but still trail the reigning champions by three points. With Galatasaray powered once again by Victor Osimhen, last season’s top scorer, the margins at the summit remain extremely fine.

Lookman is viewed internally as the attacking addition capable of turning parity into advantage, both domestically and in Europe. His pace, direct running and ability to operate across the front line are seen as ideal for a title run-in likely to offer little room for complacency.
There is also a competitive edge to the pursuit. Galatasaray were linked with Lookman last summer, and Fenerbahçe believe landing the Nigeria international would not only strengthen their own squad but also deny their rivals a proven attacking option.
Lookman has been on the market for several months after Atalanta blocked a summer exit following three strong seasons in Bergamo. That decision has coincided with a quieter start to the current campaign, with three goals and two assists in 19 appearances.
With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Atalanta are increasingly aware of the need to act, adding urgency to talks as Fenerbahçe push to clear the final hurdle.
