Alejandro Garnacho reacts as Man Utd sack Ruben Amorim
Alejandro Garnacho has ‘liked’ a post on Instagram confirming the dismissal of Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager.
The Red Devils announced that Amorim had been relieved of his duties the morning after Sunday’s clash with bitter rivals Leeds, with the club badly struggling for form and sitting sixth in the Premier League table.
In the aftermath of United’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road, Amorim launched an explosive 122-word rant seemingly directed the board, in which he claimed he joined the club to be ‘manager’ and ‘not just the coach’.
The 40-year-old Portuguese also suggested he had no intention of staying on at Old Trafford beyond his contract, which had been due to expire in 18 months’ time.
Amorim departs the Theatre of Dreams with the lowest win percentage (38.71) of any permanent Manchester United manager since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.
Garnacho, who left United to join Chelsea in a £40million deal last summer, was quick off the mark to react to Fabrizio Romano’s Instagram post breaking the news – with fans immediately perceiving the Argentine’s ‘like’ as a dig at his former boss.
It was well documented that there was no love lost between Amorim and Garnacho, especially towards the end of the latter’s time in Manchester.
This came to a head after Amorim left Garnacho out of his squad for the Manchester derby in December 2024 – and their relationship seemingly never recovered.
In May, after Garnacho was absent from United’s squad for the side’s final game of the season against Aston Villa, Amorim told the young forward he was free to leave.
Garnacho has gone on to feature 20 times in all competitions for his new club, Chelsea, who also find themselves without a manager following Enzo Maresca’s departure last week.
The Argentina international has blown hot and cold at the start of his Stamford Bridge career, managing just one goal from his ten starts in the Premier League.

In their statement announcing Amorim’s exit, United confirmed that Under-18 head coach Darren Fletcher would lead the squad on an interim basis heading into Wednesday’s trip to Burnley.
‘Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United,’ the statement read.
‘Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
‘With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
‘The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
‘Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.’
