Arsenal player ratings vs Manchester City – Noni Madueke fails to deliver in crucial clash

Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester City has made it tougher for the north London club to win their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Rayan Cherki continued his fine form of late by netting the opening goal of the game, but Man City’s lead only lasted a minute.

Kai Havertz was the beneficiary of a mistake by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and the Gunners then missed chances to take the lead.

The Gunners were punished when Erling Haaland’s low strike evaded the outstretched hand of David Raya, which proved to be the winning goal of the game.

Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes have been severely dented, with Man City now in pole position to reclaim the crown.

Jurrien Timber missed as Cristhian Mosquera stats emerge

Arsenal showed their strong resilience and defensive strength at the Etihad for much of the game, with Mikel Arteta making the big call to start Cristhian Mosquera at right-back.

The Spaniard, a centre-back by trade, started over Ben White with Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori both unavailable.

It was a mixed display from the 21-year-old, and Arteta will be praying for the return of Timber to full fitness as soon as possible.

Mosquera didn’t offer much attacking threat down the right flank, and Jeremy Doku had the beating of the defender on a couple of occasions.

Noni Madueke fails to impress in title showdown

Noni Madueke has started Arsenal’s last four matches in all competitions in place of the injured Bukayo Saka, but the 24-year-old failed to take his chance against Man City.

The winger had a tough afternoon up against Nico O’Reilly, who showed his class and defensive qualities in the left-back role, and was substituted at half-time for Gabriel Martinelli.

Arteta needs to get more productivity out of Madueke in Saka’s absence, whilst the left flank could also be a problem with Eberechi Eze also struggling against Matheus Nunes.

As Keith Wyness told Football Insider, Arsenal would have to break the budget to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from PSG, but this display once again proves the Gunners need more firepower in attack.
