Bayern Munich have made Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon a top transfer target this summer and have made contact with his representatives, according to reports in Germany.

The 25-year-old is enjoying the best goal-scoring season of his career, finding particular success in the Champions League.

The England international has scored 10 goals in just 12 European appearances, with 17 in 45 outings across all competitions.

It has been a difficult season for the Magpies in the Premier League, but Gordon’s stock is still very high as he looks set to go to the World Cup with England this summer.

The former Everton winger has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Now a heavyweight from overseas has entered the race as Bayern Munich want to tempt Gordon to Bavaria.

Sky Sport Germany report that Bayern want to bring in Gordon as competition for Luis Diaz on the left wing.

The report states that the Germans think they can get the Newcastle star for €60m (£52m), which seems extremely ambitious given the Magpies paid £45m for him in January 2023.

Gordon remains under contract at St James’ Park until 2030, so Newcastle are not under pressure to sell one of their star men below market value.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer reckons any interested party would have to pay more like double that amount if they want to sign Gordon this summer.

‘It seemed a lot of money at the time when Newcastle signed Gordon, Shearer told Betfair. ‘But I guess you’d have to start, if you’re talking about an England international forward who’s got a really good chance of starting for England, then you’d have to probably get over £100 million to have a chance of signing Gordon.’

Gordon himself spoke out on transfer speculation in February, when he dismissed his links with various clubs as ‘a load of rubbish.’

‘It’s the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat. They do,’ he told Chronicle Live.

‘I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you [the media].’

Asked if he was focused on becoming a Newcastle legend, the ex-Everton man replied: ‘Of course. I have gone through enough transfer stuff now to know that it is all a load of rubbish.

‘I am focused on me and focused on the team, I am focused on right now.

‘You look too far in the future and you start to underperform. And believe me, I have done that and I am not going to do that now.’
