Ben White: Stats highlight why Arsenal full-back has no future under Mikel Arteta

Ben White is likely to be at the very top of Arsenal‘s list of outgoing transfers once the summer transfer window swings open.

The full-back has been missing for much of the 2025-26 campaign through injury, having also only made 26 appearances across all competitions last term.

Although nobody can have doubts about White’s ability on the pitch, with Thomas Tuchel even calling him to the England squad for the first time since 2022, he is totally unreliable.

It is unclear what Arsenal’s transfer plans are ahead of the summer, but with two trophies thrown away in as many matches, Mikel Arteta and Co. will be under pressure to spend big.

Ben White was completely exposed by Southampton

White played the full 90 minutes as the Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals by Southampton on Saturday, 4 April, but Arteta might be regretting the decision to give him any minutes.

The Saints took the lead through Ross Stewart, but it was the Arsenal full-back’s mistake that allowed him an easy chance at goal, with only Kepa Arrizabalaga to beat at St Mary’s Stadium.

Not only was he at fault for the opening goal, but his entire performance stunk out the stadium, only confirming the opinion of many that he needs to be one of the first players sold in the summer.

He was totally exposed by a team fighting for a play-off spot in the Championship this season, so he is clearly nowhere near the level needed for the Gunners’ Premier League and European aspirations.

Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Arsenal’s full-back

White has long been linked with an exit, and Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Eddie Howe is a “big fan” of the Arsenal defender, with Everton also interested this summer.

It shouldn’t matter where his next destination is, just that Arteta gets him off the books and replaces him with a reliable right-back, such as Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.

Of course, he also has his injury issues, but with Man City also big admirers of the full-back, there is a reason why Pep Guardiola’s side are eager to splash the cash on his signature.

Jurrien Timber is likely to remain as Arteta’s first-choice in the position, but with the Gunners pushing for more and more trophies each season, the manager needs better depth at right-back.
