Bids to skyrocket as Everton make move to seal last-gasp defender transfer - report

Everton are set for a very busy final 24 hours of the transfer window.

With the deadline at 7:00 pm on Monday, David Moyes has confirmed that he expects at least one signing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton look likely to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea, as things stand, but that could change with things moving in the background.

Kevin Boma is another name to watch, but the Toffees may be made to wait.

Everton were in talks for Boma earlier in the window, but nothing progressed with Estoril.

Now, updates have emerged ahead of the deadline.

Foot Mercato have reported that Estoril have blocked any exit ahead of 2 February, with the phone going crazy for his services.

It is said that Everton made an official move, as well as Besiktas, but were told no.

Things will be different in the summer, however, with bids likely to skyrocket for Boma, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in Portugal.

Kevin Boma by the numbers – Just how good is he?

Looking at the stats provided by Sofascore, Boma has been impressive.

Making over five clearances per game, with over three ball recoveries, the French-born Togo international also has a solid pass accuracy.

If there is one thing that Everton lacks outside of Jarrad Branthwaite, it’s a ball-playing defender who can start attacks from the back.

Winning over 65 per cent of his duels, Boma could be the dominant defender alongside someone like James Tarkowksi who could also offer the other side of the game.

The real question remains, do Everton really need new defenders?

Branthwaite has returned from injury, with Michael Keane, Tarkowski and Jake O’Brien all also available now for Moyes.

Unless one of those were to leave, it is hard to imagine the Friedkins splashing big cash in that area.

Branthwaite is the most likely to attract attention this summer, but he has been crippled by injury in recent months, so any move could be delayed.

Should nothing happen in that area, Boma won’t likely arrive in Merseyside.
