Brentford make key Onyeka decision amidst Coventry, Valencia interest

One-time EFL Championship winners Brentford have made a decision about the future of Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka amidst interest from Coventry, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old has struggled for playing time since the start of the 2024/2025 season. As a result, he jetted out to Germany on loan, spending a season with FC Augsburg where he played 31 League games for the Bundesliga side.

The versatile midfielder had hoped his time in Germany would help in breaking him into the Brentford starting eleven, but Onyeka has been subject to just six Premier League games so far, starting none.

Onyeka started four games for the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, and his performances have caught the eye of several clubs.

Coventry, Valencia and Sheffield United pick interest in Brentford's Frank Onyeka

Frank Lampard's Coventry are currently top of the EFL Championship, three points above Middlesbrough who are in second position.

As such, Lampard wants to bring in experienced Premier League hands, hence his interest in Frank Onyeka.

The one-time FA Cup winners are hopeful of beating Valencia and Sheffield United to seal a deal for versatile midfielde, although Coventry remain the frontrunners to sign Frank Onyeka.

As per Standard UK, Brentford are stalling in negotiations with Coventry. Keith Andrews' side have slowed talks with Frank Lampard's side and as such, Valencia and Sheffield United have been put off

Onyeka is open to exiting the Gtech Community Stadium due to his hunger for playing time, and the club have made it clear that he has no long-term future with them.

Onyeka's contract with Brentford runs out next summer, thus making the January and summer transfer window the only options for the club to make some money off the ex-Midtjylland midfielder.

Brentford have done well under Keith Andrews this season, accruing 33 points from 23 games, and they're 8th in the English top-flight.
