Crystal Palace vs KuPS postponement latest as Met Office issue weather warning in South East

Crystal Palace’s Conference League clash with Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) has been plunged into doubt after a new weather warning.

It has been a chaotic week, especially after reports on Tuesday claimed that Oliver Glasner has decided to leave Crystal Palace at the end of his contract.

Decision-makers at Selhurst Park have been preparing in the event that the Austrian would depart, but there is remaining hope that he can be convinced to stay.

Palace have been linked with a move for Getafe manager Jose Bordalas should Glasner leave, with the Spaniard offering a very different style of play.

Manchester United are among the clubs keeping an eye on Glasner, with Ruben Amorim coming under increasing pressure at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace to pay close attention to conditions after weather warning

Palace’s trip to Shelbourne in the Conference League was in danger of postponement last week, due to adverse weather conditions.

But the game would ultimately go ahead, with goals from Christantus Uche, Eddie Nketiah and Yeremy Pino going without reply.

Despite their strong Premier League form, Palace still face a fight on their hands to finish in the top eight of the Conference League table.

Unlike in the Champions League and the Europa League, teams in the Conference League first stage only play six fixtures to learn their final position ahead of the knockout rounds.

With Palace currently ninth and one point away from the top eight, they face having to play two extra play-off games, should they not climb the table on Thursday.

Glasner will be keen to avoid the extra games, with the Eagles’ schedule already packed as it is.

But Thursday’s clash with KuPS could be called off, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for rain in the area surrounding Selhurst Park.

Thankfully, the impact zone appears to fall just outside of Croydon, although officials at Selhurst Park will be keeping a close eye on developments over the next day.

What must happen for Palace to secure top-eight finish

Just one point separates Palace from the Conference League top eight, with all but one team within striking distance for the Eagles.

Leaders Strasbourg have already qualified for the last 16, but seven teams below them could drop behind Glasner’s team.

Should Palace beat KuPS, attentions will likely turn to a game being played between Mainz and Samsunspor.

Conference LeaguePointsGoal difference
5. Samsunspor10+6
6. Sparta Prague10+4
7. Rayo Vallecano10+3
8. Mainz10+2
9. Crystal Palace9+5
10. AEK Larnaca9+5
11. Fiorentina9+4

Both teams sit just one point above the Eagles, meaning, as long as Glasner’s team do their job, they are guaranteed to finish above one of them.

Should Palace draw, they will need to hope that one of Mainz or Samsunspor win, with goal-difference then set to prove key.

However, close attention must be paid to the teams immediately behind, too, with AEK Larnaca and Fiorentina both behind only on goal-difference.
