Danilo shares video clip of himself as latest Rangers exit twist emerges

Danilo is on the verge of leaving Rangers.

Danilo was in attendance at the AFAS Stadion as NEC Nijmegen beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 away from home on Saturday.

The Dutch side are exceeding expectations in the Eredivisie, and Danilo looks on course to join them on loan until the end of the season.

As the move hasn’t been confirmed yet, it was surprising to see him in at the match as his Rangers exit grows increasingly certain.

Danilo was on the periphery of Russell Martin’s plans at the start of the season, although that briefly changed when Rohl was appointed.

However, the 26-year-old has now failed to start a match since mid-December, and Rangers have made it clear that he has no long-term future in Govan.

NEC Nijmegen are close to announcing Danilo’s transfer, and a loan spell would be the best scenario for him to get some game time.

Should Danilo perform well, he would become a valuable asset to the Bears in the summer transfer window.

He posted a video on Instagram after the match of himself signing in the back of a car after watching NEC win at Alkmaar.

The Brazilian striker was visibly happy, and he’ll be excited at the potential of being a regular starter again.

His exit would pave the way for one of Cameron Archer, Ryan Naderi, or Joel Piroe to join Rangers, and Rohl will be desperate for Danilo’s exit to be made official.

Why did Danilo’s move to Rangers not work out?

Danilo came to Ibrox with huge promise in July 2023 for £6million, having notched 14 goals for Feyenoord the season before.

He played just 21 times in his first season and has been constantly battling with injury issues for over two years.

That’s ultimately been his downfall, and playing under several different managers hasn’t helped.

He has not been used to any sort of stability at G51, and that’s contributed to his misfortunes.

Even when he has played this season, he has made some vital contributions, with the most notable goal coming in the 1-0 win over Hibernian on 29 October.

Although he hasn’t been good value for money, there’s no reason why he can’t rediscover his shooting boots in the Netherlands.
