Dunn admits Jack Grealish 'shame' after what he has spotted at Everton in recent weeks

Jack Grealish is enjoying his football at Everton under David Moyes.

The 30-year-old was a star for his boyhood club, Aston Villa, but following his £100m move to Man City in 2021, he has never been the same.

Everton signed Grealish on loan with an option to buy, with his price dropping considerably due to his age and the fact that manager Pep Guardiola has an abundance of wingers at his disposal.

Everton are in talks to sign Grealish for £30m in the summer, which would be a very good deal given his quality on the left wing.

However, he still needs to do more in L4 if he wants to break into the England squad.

Jack Grealish hasn’t done enough at Everton to be in contention for an England spot

The England international is third in the Premier League assists tally this campaign, with only Bruno Fernandes and Rayan Cherki bettering his total of six.

However, writing in the Sunday Mirror on 18 January, Andy Dunn believes Grealish hasn’t done enough yet to worm his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.

He said: “Even though his form has levelled out, it would be hard to argue his move to Everton has not been a good one.

“He is playing a lot of football, for starters. And apart from the strop against Wolves, he seems to be enjoying his time in Merseyside.

“But in terms of output, there has not been enough to put Grealish back in the World Cup conversation, which really is a shame.”

Moyes has been thrilled with Grealish’s progress this season, and he looks to be the man most likely to help secure a European place for the Toffees.

Grealish broke a 12-year-long Everton record by registering four assists across his first two Premier League games, and he needs to hit those heights again soon.

Grealish faces incredibly tough competition in the England squad

The Man City loanee has been consistent throughout the season, but he hasn’t featured for the Three Lions since November 2024.

Since moving to Merseyside, he has been a man reborn and has already become a fan favourite with the Everton crowd.

Tuchel left Grealish out of the England squad for all three international breaks this season, and England’s matches in March are the last time they’re in action before the German will pick his 26-man squad for the World Cup in June.

Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer are guaranteed to be picked, and Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen, and Marcus Rashford have all been frequently called up to the England squad in the past year.

While Grealish offers something unique, it’s up to him to show Tuchel that he can perform at this level on a consistent basis, and he needs to recover from his recent dip in form very quickly.
