'Embarrassing' - Michael Stewart cannot believe what he saw in Rangers win vs Aberdeen

Michael Stewart was far from happy with the officials after Rangers’ win against Aberdeen.

Danny Rohl led Rangers to a second 2-0 win over Aberdeen in the space of six days, with victory coming at the Pittodrie Stadium on Sunday.

The Bears are now second in the Scottish Premiership, three points clear of Celtic, who are on 41 points with a game in hand.

Rangers are set to complete the signing of Tuur Rommens from KVC Westerlo after announcing Tochi Chukwuani, as things are looking up for Rohl.

However, Stewart has explained why the Bears should feel aggrieved at VAR’s decision to disallow Emmanuel Fernandez’s goal in the first half.

Fernandez has turned into a goal-scoring threat since arriving at Ibrox in the summer.

Although the centre-back failed to impress at first, he is now comfortably one of Rohl’s most important players.

Fernandez seemed to have put Rangers 2-0 ahead in the first half when he beat Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov in the air to head in, before David Dickinson and VAR deemed it foul play.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene after the match, Stewart voiced his anger at the decision.

Stewart said: “Honestly, it’s embarrassing, embarrassing. No matter what mental gymnastics people go through to try to justify it, this is a goal every day of the week.

“What are you expecting Fernandez to do? If you are penalising him for this, you are effectively saying he’s not allowed to go up for the ball. He jumps up perfectly above Mitov and gets his head on it. It should never have been disallowed.”

Thankfully for Rohl, his side overcame adversity once again to bring three points back to Glasgow.

Multiple Rangers stars set for last chance to impress Danny Rohl

Rangers now have a two-game break from league action as they play Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup next, before they resume their journey in the Europa League against Ludogorets Razgrad.

The matches come shortly before the final stretch of the January transfer window, and will most likely be a final opportunity for multiple stars to change Rohl’s mind.

The likes of Danilo, Kiernan Dowell, and Rabbi Matondo will all most likely depart Rangers this month, but may still have one last shot at reviving their careers at Ibrox in these games.

Many twists and turns are yet to take place in January, as incomings and exits affect every key decision.
