Enzo Fernandez on fire, 3/10 has shocker – Chelsea player ratings vs Pafos

Moises Caicedo scored the winner as Chelsea beat Pafos 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Enzo Fernandez appeared to have given the Blues the lead in just the 17th minute, when he headed in a neat header.

Referee Erik Lambrechts blew his whistle instantly, however, ruling out the goal for what looked to be a fairly soft push in the back.

Caicedo and Jorrel Hato would have efforts saved for Chelsea, but the visitors would go closest when Jaja’s deflected effort hit the post.

After the break, the Blues would continue to rain efforts down on the Pafos goal without success, as the Cypriot side held strong.

But in the 78th minute, Chelsea finally had the breakthrough when Caicedo’s glancing header found the net.

Enzo Fernandez – Man of the match

Fernandez has been linked with a move to PSG in recent days, and the midfielder showed on Wednesday exactly why the European giants would want him.

The Argentine was everywhere in the first half, constantly looking like the man who would make something happen for Chelsea.

He may feel he should have had a goal to his name at the break, after his header was ruled out for a slight shove on the defender.

But Fernandez did not let his head fall, and just minutes into the second half, he found Estevao with a perfectly-weighted pass.

The winger’s effort was saved, but it was a moment that underlined just how much the Chelsea team runs through the 25-year-old.

Liam Rosenior spoke about the Fernandez links on Tuesday, and he will be desperate to see his midfielder remain at the club.

Liam Delap frustrates vs Pafos

When Liam Delap scored against Fulham at the start of January, it looked as if the striker could be set to push on.

Rosenior worked with him when they were both at Hull City, and the manager’s arrival was bound to be good for him.

But the reality has been quite different. Delap could only appear off the bench against Charlton Athletic and Brentford, and when given the start against Pafos, his performance was lacklustre.

The 22-year-old was anonymous throughout his time on the pitch, and missed with both of the shots he took on goal.

With Marc Guiu playing an increased role under Rosenior, Delap will have to produce better performances if he is to start more regularly.
