Europa League: Supercomputer predicts winner after Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest results

The Europa League has found its final four teams for this year’s competition after Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest both won on Thursday.

The two Premier League sides join Braga and Freiburg in the semi-finals after their victories on Thursday.

Now, Villa will be preparing to face Forest in their semi-final, with at least one English team set to get to the final.

However, with Unai Emery being a European specialist, and the Birmingham outfit doing well in the Premier League, many have tipped them to overcome Forest and win the competition.

Opta on 16 April agrees with this assessment as Villa continue to progress with ease.

Aston Villa backed to win Europa League

It is no secret that Villa have found the Europa League fairly simple this season.

The club came second in the league phase, and have now simply dispatched Lille and Bologna to reach this stage.

Europa League winner predictions Percentage
Aston Villa 44.29%
Freiburg 20.10%
Nottingham Forest 18.44%
Braga17.17%
Aston Villa are heavy favourites to win the Europa League

As a result, Opta have insisted that they are heavy favourites to go on to lift the trophy come the end of the season.

The supercomputer has given them a 44.29 per cent chance of winning the competition, the highest by far.

Following this is Freiburg at 20.10 per cent, with Nottingham Forest closely behind at 18.44 per cent.

Braga are seen as the least likely to win the trophy at 17.17 per cent, despite their recent comeback against Real Betis.

How much have Aston Villa earned from the Europa League?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Villa have bagged around £24million after beating Bologna on Thursday, with a place in the semi-finals earning them an extra £3m.

The Europa League hands out prize money for each round you get to, plus where the club finished in the league phase and how many victories they picked up.

As a result, the Birmingham outfit could land themselves with millions more if they can get into the final in a few weeks, or even win the competition.

This would no doubt be a big boost for Villa, especially after they missed out on qualifying for the Champions League last season.

However, it remains to be seen if Emery can pull this feat off and finally end Villa’s major trophy drought in the coming weeks.
