Everton learn player Chiellini thinks is 'much better' than him is there for the taking - report

Everton look to be back in the market for Federico Gatti, with Juventus willing to sell the Italian defender for financial reasons.

The Toffees have a significant summer window ahead of them, with a potential recruitment strategy tailored around European football on the horizon.

David Moyes will certainly need plenty of reinforcements in that regard, but even if Everton miss out, they will need upgrades across the squad.

There are issues in the Blues’ roster over every department, with centre-back certainly one of them.

Now, ahead of Everton’s summer business, Gatti could make his way to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

How much could Everton sign Federico Gatti for?

Everton have held interest in Gatti previously, but ahead of the summer window, the Merseyside outfit could return to the table.

With Michael Keane’s contract set to expire, an added name in central defence will be a priority.

According to Calcio Mercato, Gatti is available for around £21.7million. Everton, alongside West Ham and Nottingham Forest, have all been named as outfits that could swoop for the Italian defender.

Juventus are said to be willing to “sacrifice” the defender in order to recoup money to spend over the summer window.

Everton could now take advantage of the Old Lady’s desperation to bring in added funds. At the Serie A outfit, the Italian is currently earning a reported £95,000 a week.

His salary would place him below James Tarkowski at Everton but above Keane’s reported £80,000 per week.

Giorgio Chiellini’s comments a good omen about Everton target Gatti

From Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro and Franco Baresi, with many more that could be named too, Italian football is known to create some of the best defenders around.

In the modern age, Giorgio Chiellini certainly falls into that category. The former Juventus centre-back is undoubtedly an icon of the game, which makes his praise for Gatti hold all the more credibility.

Speaking back in 2024, the Italian believed that Gatti had qualities that showcased he was better than him.

Chiellini stated: “Technically he’s much better than me, at his age I didn’t know how to do what he can do.”

Now, at 27 years old, Gatti may not have entirely lived up to his expectations, but there is still a quality defender in there.

The Toffees would be signing a great option ahead of next season if a deal can be agreed.
