Everton striker 'realities' revealed as Moyes seeks new man - report

David Moyes will have to make a difficult decision when it comes to Thierno Barry’s Everton future this month.

Everton signed Barry from Villarreal in the summer for a fee worth £34.4million, which many feel has yet to be justified.

The Toffees are currently on 29 points in the Premier League after 21 games played, but have missed 37 big chances, while only netting 23 times.

Barry has shown a lack of composure in front of goal so far during his time on Merseyside, and has added to the Toffees’ woes in front of goal.

However, with January now here, internal figures at Everton may need to stick with the “realities” of Barry‘s progression.

Everton to keep faith in Thierno Barry in pursuit of striker targets

Everton have been heavily linked with Youssef En-Nesyri from Fenerbahce in recent days, with reports claiming that the Toffees have had a loan offer accepted for the striker.

There have been suggestions that the Blues may have to pay a loan fee of £3.9million, as the 28-year-old would most likely become Moyes’ first-choice forward.

With that being said, it poses a question around Barry’s future at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but it appears he is more likely to stay put than leave this window.

According to the Liverpool Echo on Saturday, there was an understanding at Everton that due to Barry’s raw talent, the Frenchman may take time to have an impact for the Toffees.

But Everton were prepared to accept this reality when he signed for the club last year, as the Toffees wanted a striker who could grow alongside their own ambitions.

Hot off the speculation around En-Nesyri, it’s also understood that Everton are reluctant to commit funds that could be better spent in the summer for a genuine improvement on Barry.

Why Barry still has time at Everton despite striker rumours

As highlighted by Sofascore, Barry was a real menace in Spain with Villarreal last campaign, and may just need more time to find his feet.

The 23-year-old currently averages 0.24 goals per 90 for the Toffees, and some time out of the starting lineup could benefit everyone.

One of Barry’s best traits is winning duels in the air, as highlighted by his time with Villarreal, and Moyes could even be tempted to use two strikers up front if he lands En-Nesyri this month.

Either way, the Friedkin Group will have to stick with their long-term investment, as there’s no reason why Barry can’t keep on slowly improving with more Premier League experience.
