Everton transfer round-up: Every player David Moyes is linked with signing as January window opens

Everton look set for a very busy winter transfer window.

David Moyes and Everton are enjoying an excellent season so far in 2025-26, as they head into the New Year firmly in the race for a European football spot.

As such, this January window looks to be Everton’s biggest in many years, with the potential for a spectacular second half of the season if it goes well.

English clubs will have 32 days to get their business done, and Everton may look to move quickly in an attempt to bolster their squad ASAP.

Goodison News takes a look at every player that’s been linked with a winter move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

David Moyes targets central midfield reinforcements

Manchester United have been strongly linked with James Garner, with Moyes surely reluctant to let his star midfielder leave mid-season.

Regardless of whether Garner stays or goes, the Toffees seem set on sweeting up their central midfield options, with Idrissa Gueye now 36 and away at AFCON, as well as injury issues for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Kobbie Mainoo and Kalvin Phillips are both said to interest Everton, with both players sure to be unhappy with their current situations in the red and blue halves of Manchester.

Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is also a long-term target of Everton’s, whilst Conor Gallagher has been touted with a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium as well.

As per a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid will be brought to the table over Gallagher at the £26million mark, which seems a very respectable fee given the pedigree he would bring.

Croatian midfielder Toni Fruk could also be one to watch.

Everton in the market for a winger

With Jack Grealish still shacking off an injury issue and with Iliman Ndiaye at AFCON – as well as question marks over his long-term future on Merseyside – Everton appear keen to bolster their squad on the wings.

Crystal Palace are said to have reached a £35m agreement to sign Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson, but several other clubs remain keen, and according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Everton are one of them.

According to Spanish outlet ABC Deportes, Everton also like Sevilla’s Ruben Vargas, and are potentially lining up a £13m deal to bring the Swiss international to L3.

Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been mentioned as a potential option for Everton.

Everton could solve right-back conundrum with South American swoop

As per a report from The Athletic, it’s said that Everton view the failure to sign a new right-back in the summer is something that needs to be resolved as a matter of urgency.

Seamus Coleman is 37 and has been injured since late November, leaving Nathan Patterson and Jake O’Brien as the only other options in that department.

As per a BBC Sport reveal, Everton are looking at Botafogo’s Vitinho as a possible long-term answer at the position, with the former Burnley man shining back in his native Brazil since leaving in the summer of 2024.

However, according to Globo Esporte, Atletico Madrid have now joined the chase for the 26-year-old too, with Botafogo understood to be holding out for £13m.

As for other defensive targets, according to transfer specialist Rudy Galetti, Everton could have Real Betis’ Nobel Mendy in their sights, whilst Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen has also been loosely mentioned.

Talk of a move for Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson has also quietened.

Moyes looks to Serie A to sharpen his strike force

It’s no secret that Everton want and need to sign a striker in January, with Beto, Thierno Barry and potentially even Tyler Dibling as their only options to spearhead the attack.

Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Everton are pushing to sign Roma’s Artem Dovbyk this winter, but face competition from Serie A sides such as Como, AC Milan and Napoli respectively.

Links to Ivan Toney and Joshua Zirkzee have died down in recent weeks, as has talk of an ambitious move for Porto’s Samu Aghehowa.

Chelsea youngster Tyrique George has also been loosely mentioned as a possible target.
