Idrissa Gueye could leave Everton in the near future.

The Blues want to extend his contract, given his influence on the squad, according to a report from Mark Douglas, of the i Paper on 1 May.

However, it states that a one-year deal would be on the cards, but it is not a certainty that the veteran agrees to stay.

Everton would be losing a huge amount of experience if he departed, and they must convince him.

What is Gueye’s contract status at Everton?

Gueye is currently under contract with Everton until the summer, but the club do have the option to extend that by a further year.

Depending on the terms of that clause, though, it may require agreement from the 36-year-old, which Douglas claims is not definite at this point.

It is a situation that needs resolving quickly, because he is a pivotal member of the squad at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, even though he has not featured as regularly as he may have liked.

Why Gueye must be kept around by Everton

Gueye needs to be around in L3 next season, despite his advancing age.

He can offer advice and share what it means to put on the Blue shirt, as well as taking the pressure off in terms of being a replacement in the squad.

The Toffees do not have many players who can match Gueye’s experience towards the top of the game, and his calmness and presence are needed on Merseyside, especially if Moyes’ side get into Europe.

The Friedkin Group must make an offer that convinces the veteran that he is valued and that puts any doubts over staying put that he has, into the back of his mind for the foreseeable future.
