Everton could make a move to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea in the summer.

The Toffees haven’t been shy about their desire to sign a striker, with the January window consisting of many links.

Beto looked destined to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium to be replaced by a new option, but the Guinea-Bissau international ultimately stuck around.

His future may not be as certain as he hoped, as David Moyes and Co. may delve back into the number nine market in the summer.

Delap may prove to be the man for the Blues, although a move may hinge on one major factor on Merseyside ahead of the window.

Liam Delap could sign for Everton after European qualification

The Toffees have been much-improved this season, with the final weeks of Premier League action set to have a telling impact on their future dealings.

Away form has been particularly excellent for the L4 side, and it may be enough to drag them to a top eight finish.

That could come with a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League, representing European qualification for the first time since 2017.

If that goal is reached, former Everton scout Bryan King has backed his old side to move for Delap after his failed £30million move to Chelsea last summer.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “There’s been a lot of talk about Liam Delap.

“He excelled more as a Premier League player with Ipswich Town.

“His spell with Chelsea hasn’t really flourished; he’s not had a good time.

“He’s obviously earned a lot of money, but he hasn’t shown any sort of form.

“If Everton qualify for Europe, they will have a look at Delap.”

David Moyes pushing for Conference League finish

The signing of Delap would certainly be an eye-catcher on Merseyside, as the Englishman would fit the Toffees much better than Chelsea.

It appears any deal will hinge on European qualification, but it is something that Moyes clearly has on the mind and wants to aim for this season.

Speaking earlier in March, he said: “It would be amazing if we could even get close [to European qualification], which we are. But I just look back at my time at West Ham, and we were nearly relegated.

“The next year, we went on to get into Europe, and we did it three years in a row after that. So, I think the idea is that we want to keep pushing.”

If he can keep that mindset at Hill Dickinson Stadium, there is every chance a top-eight finish could be in the pipeline.

That could then unlock the ability for Everton to bring in Delap in the summer.
