Ex-Moyes ally: Everton must reassure 24-y/o star with new deal after latest developments
Everton have been urged to table a fresh contract offer to Jake O’Brien.
O’Brien has been excellent for Everton since the introduction of David Moyes, after a difficult period under Sean Dyche following his move from Lyon.
His role as a right full-back has seen O’Brien thrive and become a regular at Everton, proving many supporters wrong at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the past year.
The potential of January signings could spell bad news for O’Brien at Everton, but he will take some shaking after such an excellent spell in L4.

Jake O’Brien next in line for Everton contract
The future of James Garner represented a concern at Everton over the first half of the season, especially with his performance levels hitting new heights.
Garner was linked with cut-price exits in January and free transfer departures ahead of the summer, but the Toffees saw to those rumours.
The Englishman has now penned a new deal to remain in L4, but now questions have emerged over who could be the next star to commit their future to the Blues.
Former Everton scout Bryan King has urged his former colleague Moyes to hand O’Brien, 24, a new deal off the back of a positive campaign.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “Garner has played well enough for a new contract, and he has deserved one.
“He’s been one of the outstanding players this year, so he’s earned that contract.
“It’s a big plus for Moyesy and for Everton.
“They’ve got contracts done for [Jordan] Pickford and [James] Garner now, and I like O’Brien. His future has to be reassured, that’s for sure.
“You’ve got a player who can play as a centre-half or a full-back.
“Keeping the squad together is hugely important, without a doubt.“
Who deserves a new Everton contract?
There are a variety of first-team stars who are deserving of a new deal in L4, with O’Brien arguably being one of them based on form.
It feels as if the preference right now will be towards those who are out of contract in the summer and could leave for nothing in six months.
There are reportedly four stars who could walk out of Merseyside for nothing, with all four having reasons they should be offered a new deal.

- Michael Keane
- Idrissa Gueye
- Seamus Coleman
These four all provide different qualities and may all see their current contracts extended, making for an interesting scenario on Merseyside for Moyes and Co.
