Expert backs Newcastle to agree signing of Man City player

James Trafford should move to Newcastle United over any other Premier League club as he seeks an exit from Manchester City.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Trafford would be “well liked” at Newcastle.

Trafford has been linked with a move to Newcastle again, with Eddie Howe having explored signing the 23-year-old from Burnley last summer before he decided to join Man City.

Newcastle’s summer transfer business could see them replace 33-year-old Nick Pope in goal, whilst Aaron Ramsdale’s loan spell from Southampton will come to an end at the end of the season.

Newcastle move would be ‘great’ for James Trafford

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the summer window would be the “right time” for Trafford to leave Man City.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness would back the England international to be a hit with the fanbase at St James’ Park.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, I think that James Trafford has been unsettled certainly at City.

“I think that, really, the move to Newcastle would be better for him. I think it’s something that was always mooted before, and it is coming round again now, and I think it’s the right time for him to make that move.

“I think he’d be well liked on Tyneside and I think that would be a great thing for him.”

Newcastle’s stance on Darwin Nunez deal

Newcastle have no plans to sign Darwin Nunez despite recent uncertainty over the future of Nick Woltemade and his goal scoring issues at the club.

Nunez, who has previous Premier League experience at Liverpool, is currently out of favour at Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.

The 26-year-old is on Howe’s radar of potential attacking options in the summer, but alternative targets will be explored before a move for Nunez.
