Expert: Crystal Palace boosted in contract talks after star player's agent twist

Dean Henderson is in line for a new contract at Crystal Palace with talks planned to take place for the offer of a new deal at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old recently changed agents and is now represented by Unique Sports Group, an agency with which Palace have a strong working relationship.

The likes of Maxence Lacroix and Brennan Johnson are also represented by the same agency, and have been involved in their big-money moves to Selhurst Park.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown bemoaned the impact of agents in the game, but told Football Insider Palace could use the news to their advantage.

Henderson has enjoyed another outstanding season at Selhurst Park, and the club are keen to keep him around ahead of a crucial summer for Crystal Palace.

Could Dean Henderson sign a new deal at Crystal Palace?

Brown told Football Insider last month that Crystal Palace are determined to extend Henderson’s stay due to his crucial role in Oliver Glasner’s side.

The captain played a key role in Palace’s FA Cup win last season, as well as their Conference League progress, and enjoys a strong relationship with the supporters.

Following his change in agency, speculation about his future has ramped up again, but Palace are determined to get him tied down.

“I’m always cautious about agents’ involvement,” Brown told Football Insider.

“I’ve seen it at clubs before where they’ll make a player change his agent before doing a deal, they want all the players, manager, staff to be with the same agent.

“So in that situation, who has the most power at the club? The manager or the agent?

“I have a bit of a problem with that, but it’s the way the game has gone now and they don’t look like going away any time soon, to be honest.

“With this situation with Palace, you could look at it two ways, Henderson changing his agent might suggest that he’s looking for a move away.

“But Palace have a good relationship with the agency he’s with now, so that will give them a boost if they want to agree a new contract.

“Palace want to keep Henderson and by all accounts he’s happy at the club.

“He’s a crucial player for them and he’s been a big part of their success, so they want to offer him a new contract, and the change in agent might make a difference there.”

Which clubs are interested in signing Henderson?

Crystal Palace’s efforts to sign Henderson have come alongside growing interest in his situation, with multiple clubs looking to strengthen in between the sticks.

Football Insider previously revealed that Tottenham are interested in Henderson and could look to prise him away from Palace should he become available.

There is a growing feeling that Guglielmo Vicario could be allowed to leave Spurs this summer, meaning a replacement will have to be signed.

Henderson has emerged as a leading target, alongside his England teammate James Trafford, but whether a deal will be possible is unclear as things stand.

While Tottenham remain in a relegation battle, their plans are set to be paused, and dropping into the Championship would put an end to any ambitions of a move.
