Grealish and the other Everton players to react to England's Garner squad announcement

Jack Grealish was the headline Everton name sharing well-wishes after James Garner’s call up to the England squad.

Garner was named in Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad for the friendlies with Uruguay on 27 March and Japan on 31 March.

It is recognition for his fine form with the Toffees, and he may well end up earning a spot at the World Cup this summer.

Grealish would have hoped to have joined him there, but a season-ending foot fracture has put any chance of that to bed.

The Everton loan star liked the post from the England national team, which said: “James Garner’s England journey continues! Congratulations on your first Three Lions call-up, James.”

Who else reacted to the Garner England call-up?

Several other Everton stars reacted to the call-up for their teammate, with Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski also liking the post.

Harrison Armstrong and Idrissa Gueye also liked the announcement that the midfielder was set to be in the squad.

Orel Mangala, who spent the 2024–2025 season on loan with the Toffees and made 19 appearances, liked the post too, in a more surprising development.

Why Grealish will be happy and sad about Garner news

Grealish will feel mixed emotions about seeing Garner named in the Three Lions squad.

The call-up means that, clearly, Thomas Tuchel was looking at David Moyes’ side, and he may have had a chance if he had not picked up his injury.

Grealish’s stats for Everton in the Premier League

He will obviously be buzzing for his teammate, with whom he probably has a great relationship, but on a personal level, he will be livid that he cannot be there with him.

Grealish’s form for the Toffees would have surely forced Tuchel to consider a place in the World Cup squad for him, as he had eight goal contributions in 20 Premier League games, and looked like he was just getting started.

Unfortunately, he looks set to have to watch Garner, if he makes the squad for the tournament in the United States, rather than being there himself.

The real question for Grealish at this point is over his future, and whether that is with the Blues or elsewhere, as his chances of making the national team are likely over at the moment.

Hopefully, he decides that the L4 outfit is where he wants to be and where he has the best chance of getting back into the fold.
