'Hate to see it' - BBC pundit calls out Rangers player for skiving vs Dundee United

Rangers loanee Andreas Skov Olsen came under heavy fire from Derek Ferguson for his listless display against Dundee United.

The right winger swapped Wolfsburg for Rangers in January after a disappointing year at the German outfit.

He came to the Bundesliga team with a good reputation after scoring 49 goals and adding 30 assists in 124 games at Club Brugge.

There was a great deal of hype about him joining Rangers but a return of one goal and three assists in 10 outings is nothing to write home about.

Skov Olsen was hooked at half time in Rangers’ 4-2 win over Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday and during the game, one incident may have summed up his afternoon.

Andreas Skov Olsen disappoints for Rangers again

Skov Olsen made his Rangers debut in late January in a 3-0 win against Dundee, and to date, the Dane is yet to play a full 90 minutes for the Gers.

After missing Rangers’ 4-1 win over Aberdeen due to illness, Skov Olsen looked off colour again, this time against Dundee United. On the face of it, his first half numbers don’t seem too bad.

But around the half-hour mark, ex-Rangers midfielder Ferguson tore into the former Bologna man.

He said on BBC Radio Scotland: “I think Danny Rohl has got to make changes. Clearly, there’s one or two positions where it’s not working, i.e. in the wide area. Olsen has been poor again, he’s done absolutely nothing.”

Not long before the break, Rangers broke through Mikey Moore and Ryan Naderi but according to Ferguson, Skov Olsen was shirking his duties.

Ferguson said: “He doesn’t want the ball. He’s not interested in receiving that ball one bit. I hate to see it. It looks like he’s hiding.”

Skov Olsen was replaced at half-time by Djeidi Gassama, in a damning indictment of his performance. It will be interesting to see if Skov Olsen starts in Rangers’ next game away to Falkirk on Sunday, 12 April.

Rangers go top in unconvincing style

Heading into this fixture, Rangers knew that a win would take them top of the Scottish Premiership on goal difference, with Hearts and Celtic set to play on Sunday.

This is a far cry from when Danny Rohl took over at Rangers in October, when the Gers were 11 points behind Hearts, while languishing in eighth.

It has been quite a turnaround from the Ibrox outfit but Rangers’ win over Dundee United wasn’t particularly convincing.

Naderi opening the scoring despite the visitors having the better of the opening 30 minutes, before Dujon Sterling made it 2-0 in the 40th minute, with Skov Olsen providing the assist.

Amar Fatah reduced their arrears just before half time before Thelo Aasgaard restored their two-goal cushion seven minutes in the second half.

Rangers missed big chances to put the game to bed in the second half, and Zac Sapsford capitalised to make it 3-2 in the 72nd minute. Rangers withstood a spirited comeback from the away side before Bojan Miovski’s deflected effort settled the contest.
