‘He’s finished’ – Rangers fans say the same thing about John Souttar after ‘horrific’ twist
Rangers fans have slammed Danny Rohl’s decision to hand John Souttar a contract after his terrible cameo in the Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic.
The centre-back came off the bench in extra time as the Gers looked to take the lead.
However, the 29-year-old was extremely poor, with the decision for Rohl to bring on Scotland international driving further criticism.
Now, with Rohl under heavy pressure, fans have been quick to point out the fact that he awarded Soutter with a new deal in February, a decision that appears to be unwise after Rangers’ terrible Celtic defeat.

Danny Rohl criticised for John Souttar new deal
Souttar has been far from impressive for Rangers this season.
The centre-back has made numerous mistakes at the Gers this season that have been punished by their opponents.
His decline in ability was on full show yet again on the weekend when his appearance from the bench helped to kill the momentum the hosts had established.
As a result, the decision to award Souttar a new contract until 2027 appears odd, and fans were quick to take to X to use this to criticise both the defender and Rohl.
Souttar should never have been given a new deal, he’s done.— Zac Morrison (@zacmorrison55) March 9, 2026
Souttar came on and was instantly the worst player on that park https://t.co/x7pug01tW9— Claire Innes (@CInnes1972) March 9, 2026
Get rid of every single one. Oh wait we gave Souttar a new deal🤦🏻♂️— Lewis Ross (@LewisRoss1872) March 9, 2026
Souttar made everything worse when he came on. He is horrific.
New contract but.. well done to everyone involved 🙄 https://t.co/1MGWlzTdHI— Kieran (@KMCL96) March 8, 2026
Rangers have made some really poor decisions in the last 10 years or so, but rewarding John Souttar with a new contract is right up there with the worst— cameron (@camcrawford99) March 8, 2026
Wouldn’t make a massive difference..Royl had improved us but we are still very soft. Concerned Rohl thought Souttar worth of a new contract— Jorg (@Hthep666) March 4, 2026
Not sure you can blame Rohl for the players bottling it again. He will be judged on who he keeps in the summer. If Tav ,Butland, Raskin,Souttar are still at Rangers come May, he will be judged very harshly , and rightly so.— BlueTommy (@TommyStark1980) March 8, 2026
Could Danny Rohl be sacked by Rangers?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Rohl won’t be sacked by Rangers at present despite their Scottish Cup exit.
As it stands, the Gers are happy with Rohl’s work, with their league position improving since he took over from Russell Martin.
There have been growing calls in recent weeks for the manager to be sacked as results continue to plummet.
I wouldn’t blame Cavenagh if he doesn’t give Rohl another penny in the summer, I wouldn’t.
I’d give him the first three months of the season and if Rangers aren’t sitting top of the league he’s out the door.
Major red flags hanging over his head now.— 𝙏𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙚 (@rockthekasbah88) March 8, 2026
With their exit from the Scottish Cup, Rangers are extremely likely to end the season trophyless as they remain third in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind Heart of Midlothian at the summit.
On top of this, there is also a chance that they are flung into the Europa Conference League next season. This could happen even if they finish third as long as Celtic do not win the Scottish Cup.
As a result, questions are being asked of Rohl. However, for now, he looks set to continue in his role.
Nevertheless, the board could be forced into a change if results continue to decline between now and the end of the season.
