‘I can’t defend him anymore’ – Liverpool fans furious with Mohamed Salah after what he did vs Newcastle
The Saudi Pro League is calling for Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool star’s performance against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Despite grabbing an assist on 31 January, taking his tally to four goals and five assists in the league, many supporters are ready for the Egyptian legend to be moved on either this month or in the summer.
When Salah fell out with Arne Slot before heading off to AFCON, the 33-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Middle East, and plenty of teams were desperate for his signature.
With the veteran misfiring, Liverpool leaned on Hugo Ekitike for goals against the Magpies, with Florian Wirtz adding a third, then Ibrahima Konate with a fourth, and Anthony Gordon‘s opener became a distant memory.
The Reds’ third was truly where Salah came to life, but even having created a goal at Anfield, many fans were still critical of the winger’s performance in the final third.
Mohamed Salah is not the same player he used to be
Two minutes after assisting Wirtz, Salah had a brilliant chance to get on the scoresheet himself. Unlike him, though, he fired into the side netting from just outside the six-yard area.
Because of the miss, several fans labelled him as “washed,” with his drop in form “alarming”. One supporter even urged the club to “sell him for good money”.
Many are waiting for the announcement that Salah has finally left Anfield amid plenty of interest from Saudi Arabia, and some others are wishing it upon the 33-year-old winger before the transfer window closes.
- @klintoncod: “Mo Salah is actually due for Saudi.“
- @Sanematic: “Salah’s drop in form has been alarming! He’s ruined so many of our attacks today. He needs to get out of this funk asap abeg!”
- @Maahir_J: “Salah is unfortunately very washed in front of goal, but his final ball is still excellent.”
Liverpool star’s full stats vs Newcastle United are a mixed bag
Watching Salah in front of goal, it is understandable why many supporters are upset that he is nowhere near the player he used to be, but that time was always going to come.
Even so, the veteran created the most chances of anyone on the pitch (3), delivered two successful crosses, missed one big chance, and won a foul against the Magpies [FotMob].
However, with just 33 per cent of ground duels won, zero dribbles completed, two off-target shots, and one offside tallied up, it was certainly not the perfect performance from him.
With Jeremy Frimpong sidelined until mid-February, there are very few options on the right wing, so it is much more likely that the Reds hold onto Salah until the summer transfer window, at the very least.
