Ibrox View: Rangers can't afford mess on with 14-app PL star again as exit rumours intensify
Rangers are once again being linked with Leeds United star Joel Piroe, but the 49ers need to remember what happened in the winter window.
The Bears were linked with Piroe in the January transfer window before landing Ryan Naderi, and it remains to be seen whether that would have made a big difference.
However, the Dutchman decided to stay at Elland Road and fight for his place, despite not having much game time in the Premier League.
Danny Rohl has already sat down with the 49ers to discuss preliminary talks around the winter window, and adding a new number nine may be at the top of their agenda.
But Rangers should be careful with trying to sign Piroe, as putting all their eggs in one basket may come back to hurt them once more.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Joel Piroe has gone an entire season without a league goal
Piroe to Rangers was called off with just days left of the transfer window, as the Bears then turned their full attention to Naderi instead.
But let’s be real, it left the Bears scrambling around for a forward very late, and Rohl could’ve been left short in such an important area.
Area of game Stats Matches (starts) 14 (2) Shots 11 xG 0.87 Goals 0 Dribble success 33.3%
As seen in the table above, Piroe has only played in 14 Premier League games this season, scoring no goals, and is in terrible form.
The 26-year-old was the Championship’s top goal scorer last campaign, but failing to make the step up to the top flight should raise concerns at Ibrox.

Other clubs across Europe and in the Championship are still said to be tracking the forward, but this season alone should be enough to put Gers off signing him.
What does Piroe links tell us about Youssef Chermiti?
Piroe is one of a few strikers that Rangers have been tipped to sign ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.
Regardless of whether or not the 49ers should make the move, the news is interesting considering that they already have Naderi and Youssef Chermiti on their books.
Or it could be more telling given the fact that PSV have been linked with Chermiti, and may offer the Bears a eight-figure sum to tempt the 49ers.
Maybe the club are preparing for his sale, or they expect even more interest from bigger clubs to come.
Planning ahead is smart, but there are better strikers out there than Piroe, for whom Leeds would want a hefty fee.
