'It's really affected him' - Expert drops verdict on Pep Guardiola quitting Man City
Pep Guardiola could be seriously considering his Man City future amid a difficult situation in his personal life.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states Guardiola has been “really affected” by his ongoing divorce.
Guardiola’s future at Man City is in doubt, with the Spaniard yet to commit to the club beyond when his contract expires in 2027.
Enzo Maresca is on a list of candidates to replace Guardiola, with the 55-year-old set to have a say on who succeeds him at Man City.
Pep Guardiola in ‘difficult’ situation
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Guardiola has “earned the right” to decide when he wants to leave Man City.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness doesn’t think Guardiola will depart the club this season.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’ve been saying for a while, I just think Pep personally, his own personal situation with his ongoing divorce, etc. I think that’s really affected him, and as a human being I feel sorry for him in that situation.
“I think it has affected the way that he put himself into his work. It’s always a difficult thing when these sorts of things happen. I don’t think he’s going to leave. I think he’s always prided himself on the fact that he’s broken a contract, I think, in his career.
“And I think he’s got another season to go after this one. There may well be that he feels it’s time to call. And he certainly has earned the right to decide when he decides to go.”

Man City eye up former Liverpool star
Man City could make a shock move for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the 27-year-old having struggled to settle into life at Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool last summer to join the Spanish giants for free, but the right-back has started just seven games in all competitions this season.
The former Liverpool star could solve Man City’s problem in the right-back position, with Guardiola having used a number of different players in the role.
