Johan Lange has every right to be excited as game-changing Tottenham appointment announced

Johan Lange has shared his delight at a new behind-the-scenes appointment at Tottenham that will hopefully be a game-changer.

Fabio Paratici will officially leave Tottenham when the winter transfer window closes early in February.

The 53-year-old returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October upon the conclusion of his 30-month FIFA ban.

Fellow sporting director Lange will remain in place, though, while CEO Vinai Venkatesham is also on hand to play a part in transfer matters.

But Spurs have wasted no time in bringing in another backroom figure to help oversee matters off the pitch.

Tottenham confirm Carlos Raphael Moersen appointment

Daniel Levy’s surprise Tottenham exit last year has led to some juggling around behind the scenes in terms of various jobs.

Tottenham do now at least have a director of football operations in place, with Carlos Raphael Moersen‘s appointment being confirmed via the official club website on Thursday.

Notably, Moersen is not replacing Fiorentina-bound Paratici, but rather taking up a newly-created position.

Moersen’s job will see him oversee the “football structure”, which on the face of it sounds like a hybrid role that entails a number of different tasks.

Nicknamed Rafi, he will also work closely with Tottenham Women and also work with the academy to ensure a smooth pathway to the first team.

Lange told Tottenham’s website: “We are delighted to welcome Rafi to the club in the newly created role of Director of Football Operations.

He was the outstanding candidate from a highly competitive process and brings a wealth of experience in this critical area of our football operation.”

Moersen’s background justifies Johan Lange’s excitement

Moersen may not be a household name, but he spent more than a decade working for City Football Group, who have Manchester City as part of their stable of worldwide clubs.

He worked on player transactions in that role, which is certainly a quality Lange – and Spurs as a whole – will be happy to have on board.

Behind-the-scenes appointments of this nature can so often just be shrugged off, but these are the type of figures that shape the present and indeed the future of Spurs.

There has been plenty of chopping and changing, but hopefully this is now when things settle down and everyone can focus on transfer matters, with Conor Gallagher’s move to Spurs hopefully a sign of things to come.
