Leeds United could reignite Raheem Sterling move as Feyenoord fate sealed

Leeds United and several other Premier League clubs will have the opportunity to sign Raheem Sterling this summer.

The winger left Chelsea and joined Feyenoord on a free transfer in February, but it appears that his stay will not extend past the initial six months.

The 31-year-old has registered just one assist in six appearances since joining Robin van Persie’s side, and spent their last game on the bench.

Sterling has attempted to rediscover his best form for several years without success, with the four-time Premier League winner’s best years clearly behind him.

Leeds transfer chiefs will assess the situation, however, and perhaps take a view that there is a little more to squeeze out of the winger yet.

Feyenoord make Raheem Sterling decision

Everton held talks with Sterling in the immediate aftermath of his exit from Chelsea, but the winger ultimately decided to go elsewhere.

Leeds, too, have shown interest in the 31-year-old, with Daniel Farke looking for more danger in the wide areas.

Summer signing Noah Okafor has enjoyed a superb 2026 so far, registering five direct goal contributions in his previous three appearances, but it is the other side of the pitch which has caused concern.

Brendan Aaronson has enjoyed a good season, but the likes of Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto have struggled amid injuries and a lack of consistency.

While Sterling, by no means, is the man to come in and fire Leeds up the Premier League table in his current state, he could be an extremely valuable figure for the squad.

There are few Premier League players with more experience than the winger, and he knows, perhaps better than anyone, what it takes to succeed amid huge pressure.

Sterling will be available this summer, after Rotterdam-based newspaper Algemeen Dagblad via FR12 reported that he will leave Feyenoord after just six months.

What Sterling still has to offer on the pitch

On the pitch, it appears that Sterling’s race is all but run. The former England international has lost much of his pace and seems to drift through games.

Rare moments have seen his electricity return, however, and there is a suspicion that one final push could be in him.

The team that can extract that, whether it is Leeds or not, will be set to benefit massively.

Farke may well consider the financial ramifications of such a deal too risky, but the prospect of having even 10 per cent of the player Sterling used to be is a very alluring one indeed.
