Luis Suarez: Stats indicate Sporting CP star can solve Newcastle United’s attacking issues
Luis Suarez is currently wanted by both Newcastle United and Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Sporting CP striker has netted 33 goals in 42 matches in all competitions, including five in the Champions League.
It has been a remarkable turnaround for the 28-year-old, who was at Watford until 2020 after failing to make a breakthrough into the first team.
Now, Portuguese publication Correio da Manha on 28 March claims Liverpool and Newcastle are showing interest in the attacker ahead of the summer transfer window.
Below, Football Insider has examined whether the striker can be the solution to Newcastle’s ongoing attacking issues.

Luis Suarez could be Newcastle’s next main striker
There is no doubt that Newcastle currently have an issue up top. The signings of both Nick Woltemade and Yoanee Wissa have simply not worked out, with the duo only having a combined 14 goals in all competitions this season.
While Anthony Gordon has been effective in this position, it has been clear that this cannot be a long-term solution.

However, based on Suarez’s stats in the Liga Portugal this season, everything indicates that he would be an instant success at St James’ Park.
So far, he is averaging 1.02 goals, 0.80 xG, 5.47 shots, 0.17 assists and eight touches in the opposition box per match.

Therefore, with Sporting set to demand £50million, this could be a bargain if these stats can be replicated in the Premier League.
While the Magpies fanbase will be wary of how bad Viktor Gyokeres has been since his move from Sporting to Arsenal in the summer, plenty of attacking stars have gone on to become successful in the Premier League after leaving Portugal, including Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Jota.
What does the future hold for Yoanne Wissa and Nick Woltemade?
Ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle could face difficulty selling Wissa and Woltemade in the summer.
The Magpies spent over £100m bringing the duo to St James’ Park. However, it is clear that the transfers have not worked out.
While he does believe that there could be a place for Woltemade in the Bundesliga, Wyness insists Wissa could still be at Newcastle next season.
However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies decide to sell the duo in the summer, or if Eddie Howe is prepared to give them a second chance.
