Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire injury latest from Man Utd boss Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick is still waiting to learn the availability of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw for Manchester United’s trip to Newcastle on Wednesday night.
Both started the win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday, but neither made it to the final whistle.
Shaw lasted just 24 minutes, while Maguire was subbed off late in the game, replaced by Ayden Heaven on 85 minutes.
It turned out that neither suffered injuries, but were in fact struggling with illness during the 2-1 victory over the Eagles.
Carrick was pretty vague on their status during a press conference on Tuesday, but hopes both will be available for the trip to St James’ Park.
‘I’m hoping so, they weren’t feeling too good,’ said Carrick on the defenders’ availability. ‘We’ve still got a bit of time to the game so we’ll just have to see how they feel. We’ll give them every chance.
‘It wasn’t injury, no. Both of them weren’t feeling too good. It’s one of them things, really. We’ll just have to see how they are today and tomorrow morning.’

Manchester United were without Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount on Sunday, but both are close to a return to fitness.
Whether they will be involved at Newcastle is yet to be confirmed, with Carrick not addressing the status of the Argentine defender or English midfielder.
Definitely still out are Patrick Dorgu, who is recovering from a hamstring problem, while Matthijs de Lift continues to suffer with a back problem.
The victory over Palace at the weekend made it six wins and a draw from seven games under Carrick’s management of the Red Devils.
They are now sitting pretty in third in the Premier League table and asked if he has been surprised by the sparkling results since he took over, he said: ‘I wouldn’t use the word surprised, we always strive to win games.
‘Every game is winnable. Both teams will think the same. We have given ourselves a chance of doing that. When you are in it, the boys have got to be in a good frame of mind. You have to stay in the moment.
‘It is not for us to talk about it. We still think we can do things better. Winning games is a good feeling.’
