Man City fans all say the same about Pep Lijnders as Pep Guardiola to miss pre-Tottenham press conference

Pep Guardiola has sparked questions about his whereabouts as Pep Lijnders prepares to be quizzed ahead of Man City’s clash with Tottenham.

Man City beat Galatasaray in the Champions League mid-week, automatically qualifying for the next stages, winning back-to-back games after defeats to Man United and Bodo/Glimt.

Across the Premier League, also facing success in Europe, Tottenham beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 on Wednesday, 28 January, with the two teams clashing in North London on Sunday, 1 February.

Spurs have become a bogey team for the Citizens in recent seasons, winning three of the last four, including a victory in the Carabao Cup fourth round, and a new twist has already emerged.

As Man City beat Exeter City in the FA Cup, Guardiola was in the stands thanks to a suspension, leaving Lijnders to make decisions from the dugout, and fans are ready to welcome him back.

Pep Lijnders takes over from Pep Guardiola pre-Tottenham

With Lijnders taking the place of Guardiola, who is “unavailable” for the press conference, fans are looking back to the last time the assistant manager was in charge, which was the 10-1 win over Exeter.

One football fan said, “Spurs in trouble!” as multiple others relived his time in charge in the FA Cup, but the assistant manager is unlikely to do anything more than speak to the press.

It is reported that Guardiola is currently in Barcelona, giving a pro-Palestine speech, leaving other members of his staff to face the media at 12:30pm on Friday, 30 January.

Should Man City fans be concerned ahead of facing Spurs?

As already discussed, the Citizens often find themselves on the wrong side of a result against the Lilywhites, and Frank has been known to do the same during his time at Brentford.

While the manager does not have the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney at his disposal, Spurs have more than enough talent to cause damage against one of the teams aiming for the league title.

However, despite Tottenham‘s success in Europe this season, they are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League standings, just eight points above the relegation zone. Frank is under major pressure.

If he can draw on previous results between the two sides, with Spurs winning three of the last four, City could be in for quite the shock at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.
