Man United ready to accept ‘exceptional’ Kobbie Mainoo bid amid Newcastle transfer development

Manchester United could finally be about to accept an offer for Kobbie Mainoo in the January transfer window.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this winter, as he is still waiting for his first start of the season in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed back in September that Manchester United would let Mainoo leave in January if they were able to source a capable replacement, but that has looked increasingly unlikely as the window draws ever closer.

Ruben Amorim remains adamant that he values the starlet’s ability, but that isn’t translating into regular gametime for him in the middle of the park.

Newcastle keen to strike Kobbie Mainoo deal amid latest Man United stance

Mainoo’s struggles at Manchester United have prompted a huge amount of interest in him in recent months, from both the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a rapid rise to the top level in 2023-24, and that culminated in him starting in England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

However, this term, he has found opportunities to impress extremely hard to come by, and that has drawn the attention of several clubs from across the continent.

There has been plenty of Premier League interest in Mainoo, with Newcastle United the latest to establish themselves as a genuine option to sign him in January, according to The Sun.

United remain undeterred in their stance and will only sell the starlet if they receive an “exceptional” offer, according to Rob Dorsett via his X account.

Amorim and Co. have no intention to loan the youngster out, and it is understood that only a select few Premier League clubs would be able to afford their substantial asking price.

Newcastle’s spending power to test Man United’s resolve

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that the Mainoo has had to endure “crazy” treatment from the club in recent months, and that viewpoint is shared across the majority of the fanbase.

The Old Trafford faithful are keen to see the academy graduate receive a sustained opportunity to impress, not least because he quickly established himself as one of the country’s finest young talents when he first broke into the first team.

With that in mind, news of Newcastle’s interest will surely have the alarm bells ringing among United supporters.

Their board may have placed a sizeable price tag on Mainoo’s head, but Newcastle have flexed their financial muscles on several occasions in recent seasons, and they undoubtedly have the capability to table a big offer for the midfielder.

The Magpies have the power to seriously test the resolve of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co., and it could also be enough to tempt them into business, given the need to revamp the rest of the squad.
