Neco Williams’ Nottingham Forest contract situation examined as summer interest ramps up

Neco Williams is attracting a lot of attention as the flying full-back continues to impress at Nottingham Forest this season.

The 24-year-old Welshman has been Forest’s first-choice left-back under three different managers – Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira – this season.

He has already notched the same number of goal contributions as last term, with one goal and three assists, and could yet play a key role as the Reds dive deeper into their Europa League journey.

Forest’s transfer plans will largely depend on their league status ahead of next season, but it appears that those at the City Ground might have to prepare for losing one of Pereira’s key players this summer.

Neco Williams could be at Nottingham Forest until 2029

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Liverpool defender, who now has 149 appearances for Forest and 55 caps for Wales, is attracting attention ahead of the summer, with several clubs keeping tabs.

Williams has already been an incredible servant at the City Ground, and supporters will have been very relieved when the full-back put pen to paper on a new contract in the summer of 2025.

His current deal is set to expire in 2029, and given his performances along the River Trent, it might take quite the transfer fee to prize him away, and possibly a big salary, with reports detailing a £65,000-a-week wage at Forest.

Several Premier League giants have likely kept tabs on his progress, not least Liverpool following his exit in 2022, so it will be interesting to see if the Reds can stop him from leaving at the end of the season.

Vitor Pereira could already have plans for a replacement

Whether Pereira wants to replace one of his best assets or not, the manager may have no choice, especially if some big-name clubs are to come in for Williams this summer.

Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Forest could be searching for a Williams upgrade after a very disappointing display against Brighton, a rare off-day for the defender.

Surrounding clubs have clearly not been put off by that one poor performance, with interest building ahead of the next window, but Forest do hold the high ground in any future transfer.

With Williams tied down until 2029, it will take a huge transfer fee for the club to part ways with him, or failing that, a transfer request from the player himself, which seems unlikely.
