Pedro Porro could hold key to Tottenham survival, his teammates can’t let him down vs Wolves

Pedro Porro had every right to keep his head held high despite Tottenham Hotspur‘s late heartbreak against Brighton.

The Spanish right-back opened the scoring with a smart header on Saturday, 18 April, popping up with his first Premier League goal of the 2025-26 season at the best time for Tottenham.

Of course, with Georginio Rutter benefitting from Kevin Danso’s late mistake, Spurs were forced to settle for a single point, extending their winless run in the league to 15 matches.

Roberto De Zerbi’s 2-2 draw with Brighton showed positive signs in North London, and Porro will need to be at his absolute best once again when the Lilywhites travel to Molineux Stadium on Saturday, 25 April.

Pedro Porro has become Tottenham’s most creative player

As pointed out by Squawka, only Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz made more successful passes into the penalty area than Spurs’ No.23, tying with the likes of Rayan Cherki and Enzo Fernandez.

As well as scoring, Porro created a chance, had another shot on target, and made eight passes into the final third, all while making four clearances, two tackles and five interceptions [FotMob].

Throughout the 2025-26 campaign, the 26-year-old has created the most chances of anyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, only being beaten by Xavi Simons for big chances created.

With Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani both missing six big chances each in the Premier League, the strikeforce is wasting some serious chances, which could help seal survival this season.

Dominic Solanke is no angel either, with three big chances missed, and the former Bournemouth man remains six goals behind Richarlison in front of goal.

What does the future hold for Spurs’ right-back without Premier League survival?

Clubs are already eyeing up a move for the flying full-back, with Man City one of those interested in Porro’s signature should the Lilywhites fail to get themselves out of the relegation zone.

Football Insider understands that Spurs want to hand the defender a new contract, with his current deal running until the summer of 2028, but he is clearly too talented for a drop to the Championship.

That is why his teammates must take advantage of his creative talents in the final third, latching onto his balls in the final third, if Spurs stand any chance of beating West Ham or Nottingham Forest to survival.

He is one of the only players who are guaranteed to start the remaining five fixtures this season, and he absolutely deserves to be applauded for his efforts so far.
