Premier League club snap up young Rangers defender with 18 month contract now signed

Rangers’ transfer window has burst into life over the last week or so.

Tochi Chukwuani’s move to Ibrox kicked things off for Danny Rohl, with the midfielder becoming his first new signing as Rangers head coach.

Then came the signing of Tuur Rommens, with the left-back joining from Belgian side Westerlo to finally shore up that side of the Gers defence.

However, Rangers’ big signing of the window so far is Andreas Skov Olsen, as the winger arrives from Wolfsburg to add a potentially top-class player to Rohl’s attack.

Rangers lose defender to Premier League side Burnley

Outgoings have been happening too, with perhaps the most notable being Lyall Cameron’s loan move to Aberdeen.

Oscar Cortes has also sealed a move to Argentinian outfit Huracan, whilst youngsters Lewis Stewart and Calum Adamson have both signed with Alloa Athletic on a temporary basis.

Further incomings and outgoings are expected at Ibrox before the window shuts, and another departure has been confirmed this week.

Announcing via Burnley’s official club website, the Premier League club have confirmed the signing of defender Cameron Scott from Rangers.

The 18-year-old has penned an 18-month contract with the Clarets having been on trial with them, and will go straight into their Under-21 squad.

Scott seems chuffed with Burnley move

Having joined Rangers at the age of nine, he would continue to turn heads at Ibrox before eventually signing his first professional contract aged 16.

However, despite being capped by Scotland at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, Scott was never able to make a first-team appearance for Rangers.

As well as being able to represent Scotland, Scott also qualifies to play for South Africa due to his mother being from there, and was initially pushed towards playing Rugby before eventually choosing football.

Scott did make a couple of appearances for Rangers’ B side, but now leaves ready to pursue the chance to make a name for himself south of the border.

And speaking to Burnley’s website, Scott – who can play both at centre-back, left-back and left midfield – sounds delighted to be moving to Turf Moor.

“It’s a great feeling to be here,” he said. “When you’re younger you always want to be at the top clubs, and being at a Premier League club like Burnley was really attractive to me.

“There are quite a few Scottish lads around the building too, including Ellis (Clark) who I played against for years and Muzz (Murray Campbell) who is from the same area as me.”

Scott could make his debut for Burnley’s Under-21s when they take on Arsenal on 23 January, with the Clarets sitting 26th of 29 in Premier League 2.
