Premier League make announcement on Tottenham vs Manchester City controversy
Tottenham secured a morale-boosting point against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Amid a season where Spurs had dropped to 15th in the table, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is fighting for his job.
Despite enjoying an impressive Champions League campaign, where Tottenham qualified for the last 16 with relative comfort, their league form has been troubling.
Indeed, Frank’s side had not won in the Premier League since a 1-0 victory at struggling Crystal Palace back on 28 December, 2025.
However, on Sunday, they claimed a very creditable 2-2 comeback draw with Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although the result was not without controversy.
Premier League explains decision to award Dominic Solanke goal
Tottenham looked to be heading to another home defeat after goals from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo gave City a comfortable lead at half time.
But Spurs looked a different team in the second half as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 on Sunday evening.
Dominic Solanke’s double, the second of which was a terrific bit of improvisation from Conor Gallagher’s cross, ensured Tottenham fans went home a bit happier.
It could have been very different, though, had VAR ruled differently on Solanke’s first goal against City in the 53rd minute.
According to the Premier League Match Centre via X, referee Rob Jones awarded Spurs the goal despite a coming together with Solanke and City’s Marc Guehi.
Pep Guardiola’s side felt the England centre-back was fouled by the striker but the officials thought otherwise as Tottenham got back into the game.
The result means Spurs are up to 14th and sit nine points above the relegation zone, whereas City are six points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Thomas Frank to get stay of execution at Tottenham?
When Ange Postecoglou was sacked last year, the Tottenham hierarchy pointed to a particularly poor Premier League season where they finished 17th.
Spurs ended their 17-year wait for silverware by lifting the Europa League trophy at Manchester United’s expense, but that was not enough to save the Australian’s job.
Fast forward to February 2026, and Tottenham are in a similar position in the league but the football is, arguably, far less exciting.
They may be more defensively sound but Frank has one of the worst win percentage records this century among Tottenham managers.
If they don’t start climbing up the table soon, the former Brentford boss – whose side were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier this season – may be looking for a new job.
