Ragers enquire to reunite Rohl with former player, could offer pre-contract - report

Rangers made an enquiry to sign Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe earlier in the winter transfer window.

The German manager signed the 28-year-old at Hillsborough in the summer of 2024, and he was a key player for him in South Yorkshire.

Rohl has already completed his third signing in Skov Olsen, but the Gers don’t seem to have any plans to stop their investment in January.

Andrew Cavenagh appears ready to splash the cash at Ibrox, and it remains to be seen what other deals the Light Blues will get over the line before Deadline Day on 2 February.

Rangers can offer pre-contract terms to Max Lowe

Despite initial contact with Lowe, it’s unclear whether the Gers will return with a formal offer in the coming weeks, according to The Star.

The news outlet reports on 17 January that the chances of the versatile defender leaving in January are slim, and the player doesn’t have any desire to leave either.

It’s been suggested that while there’s no need for an immediate fire sale, the Ibrox side have the ability to offer the Englishman pre-contract terms, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

Rohl has already signed Tuur Rommens, but it looks like the Glaswegian outfit are still keen on bolstering the left side of their defence.

It would make sense for the German manager to plan ahead and sign someone like Lowe, given that Jayden Meghoma will return to Brentford once his loan deal expires in the summer.

Max Lowe transfer could stop Danny Rohl from triggering buy option

Derek Cornelius was pivotal for Rohl at Ibrox before picking up an injury, with his return not expected until February.

Rangers signed the Canada international on loan from Olympique Marseille last summer, with the deal including an option to buy for around £3.4m.

Lowe mostly played on the left of a back-three for the German manager at Sheffield Wednesday and was also deployed at left-back and left-wing-back at times.

If the Englishman does end up reuniting with Rohl, the Glaswegian outfit may not see the need to sign Cornelius permanently, but only time will tell how his situation will unfold in G51.
