Rangers could wrap deal quickly for player EFL club ready to let go - report

Rangers could wrap up a deal for Southampton striker Cameron Archer quickly in the final hours of the winter transfer window.

The 24-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the Saints this season, and they’re willing to let him leave before the 2 February deadline.

Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi is being hotly pursued at Ibrox, but the Gers have hit a few stumbling blocks during negotiations for the 22-year-old German striker.

Danny Rohl could instead turn focus to Archer, with the Glaswegian outfit expressing interest in the 24-year-old Englishman, and an agreement could potentially be imminent.

Southampton want Cameron Archer wage covered amid Rangers interest

Southampton want a significant chunk of Archer’s wages to be covered to facilitate a loan exit, according to the Daily Record.

The news outlet reports on 30 January that the Saints are looking to free up their wage bill amid their struggles in the EFL Championship.

It’s been claimed that the Ibrox hierarchy know what it will take to sign the striker, who has started just six league matches in the current campaign, scoring two goals.

With the clock ticking before the winter window concludes, the Glaswegian outfit are advancing on alternative options as they struggle in their negotiations for Naderi. https://x.com/Record_Sport/status/2017317820153864415

Danilo seems to be on his way to NEC Nijmegen, leaving Rohl with an evident priority to bolster the number nine position.

Danny Rohl to make drastic transfer U-turn after latest developments

It feels like any deal to sign a new number nine could go down to the wire at Rangers.

The Gers haven’t been able to count on Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski to find the back of the net consistently, and their struggles were once again evident in the 3-1 Europa League loss to Porto in Portugal.

It’s clear that the lack of a reliable goalscorer is one of the final pieces of the puzzle for Rohl to compete with Hearts and Celtic in the William Hill Premiership.

If the Glaswegian outfit are unable to sign a new number nine, Danilo may have to swallow his pride and return to the mix at Ibrox until the end of the season to provide cover up front.
