Rangers make exit decision as multiple clubs circle for star now worth millions more - report

Danny Rohl will be determined to retain the services of his best players this month.

Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 on Sunday, extending their winning run to five Premiership games and maintaining the pressure on leaders Hearts.

Nicolas Raskin squirting water at an Aberdeen fan after full-time stole the headlines away from Rangers‘ performance, as goals from Thelo Aasgaard and James Tavernier handed the Gers all three points on a wet and wild night at Pittodrie.

Kris Boyd thinks Rangers will only improve under Rohl, who has been handed his first transfer breakthroughs at Ibrox over the last few days, with Tochi Chukwuani signing at Ibrox, whilst deals for Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen are hoping to be completed too.

Rangers’ Djeidi Gassama January transfer stance revealed

It won’t all be about incomings this month, with Rangers sure to sanction some exits as they look to balance the books and keep in the financial good books.

However, given their turnaround and subsequent title charge under Rohl, any ideas of possibly allowing some key players to leave this month in order to fund a squad overhaul will have been quashed.

One of those star players is Djeidi Gassama, who moved to Ibrox in this season’s summer transfer window from Sheffield Wednesday, in a deal worth just over £2million.

That’s looking like a bargain at the moment, but as per a report from Rangers Review, the 22-year-old winger is attracting growing interest from clubs across the continent as well as in the MLS, with Spanish outfit Villarreal and Belgian side Club Brugge two clubs credited with monitoring his progress.

However, Rangers fans will be able to breath a sigh of relief, as it’s reported that Gassama won’t be going anywhere this winter, as he has no intention of leaving the Ibrox project a matter of months after joining, while the Gers do not intend to cash in.

It’s stated that should any clubs come knocking for Gassama – who has played 22 league games this season, as highlighted by the Sofascore graphic above – then his price tag will be “several times higher” than the £2m fee Rangers paid to acquire him.

That should be enough to send a clear ‘not for sale’ message out of Glasgow.

Why Gassama success under Danny Rohl could be a curse

Working with the exact same group of players that Russell Martin had been, Rohl is already getting significantly more out of previously underperforming Rangers stars.

Gassama’s performances were up and down in the early stages of the season, but under Rohl he’s consistently starring, and he’s now set to play an integral role in Rangers’ title push in the second half of the campaign.

However, whilst this is a blessing for the Gers, it could also be a curse too, as should the Frenchman continue to only get better under his former Sheffield Wednesday gaffer in Glasgow, then it will surely reach a point where Rangers cannot turn down the type of offers they may receive for him over the next few years.

But, that’s a bridge Rangers chiefs will happily cross when the time comes, as although it may mean losing him, it should come with the caveat of their coffers being bankrolled.
