Southampton striker Cameron Archer could potentially be on his way to Rangers before the winter transfer window deadline.

Archer has emerged as a concrete target at Ibrox, with the Gers advancing in talks to sign him on loan from the Saints.

Danny Rohl also wants Hansa Rostock centre-forward Ryan Naderi, but any deal for the 22-year-old German manager could potentially involve sending him back to the 3. Liga club for the rest of the season.

It’s clear that the Glaswegian outfit are looking to add a new number nine to their ranks, but it remains to be seen who it will be.

Danilo was in attendance at the AFAS Stadion as NEC Nijmegen beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 away from home on 31 January.

The Gers striker was spotted at the Eredivisie outfit’s stadium amid reports that he will join them on loan in the coming hours.

NEC seem close to announcing Danilo’s transfer, and that must mean the Light Blues already have a replacement lined up.

Football consultant and scout Kai Watson shared on X that he believes a move for Archer “must be close”, with the Brazil national spotted in the Netherlands, but the 24-year-old Englishman’s Sofascore comparison with Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski doesn’t really look encouraging.

The Ibrox faithful have been anticipating an exciting end to the winter window, and it feels like any deal the Glaswegian outfit are working on at the moment will go down to the wire until the 2 February deadline.

Rohl has hinted at making a marquee signing at Ibrox, and the Gers may not stop at just bringing in a new number nine.

Rangers lost 3-1 to Porto in the Europa League on 29 January away from home despite taking an early lead, and their defensive frailties were evident.

It was only after John Souttar came on in the second half that the Light Blues looked a bit solid at the back, with James Tavernier, Emmanuel Fernandez and Nasser Djiga arguably not good enough.

Signing a new centre-back should be on the Glaswegian outfit’s agenda if they’re serious about catching up with Hearts at the top of the table in the William Hill Premiership.
