Richard Hughes ‘must be sacked’ amid ‘huge’ Liverpool transfer development

Liverpool fans have been left questioning the club’s transfer strategy after it was revealed they could re-sign Jarell Quansah in the summer.

Quansah left Liverpool to join Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen last summer in a deal worth £35million in order to get more playing time.

The 23-year-old came through the youth system at Liverpool and made 30 first-team appearances across two seasons for the club.

Liverpool’s transfer activity in the summer could be with a focus on strengthening their defence, with Arne Slot’s side’s failure to defend their Premier League title partly down to issues at the back.

Liverpool facing ‘huge loss’ on Jarell Quansah deal

Ibrahima Konate has yet to commit his future to Liverpool beyond this season, meaning the club are likely to lose the centre-back at the end of the season.

That leaves Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and the currently injured Giovanni Leoni, as the only senior options at centre-back at Slot’s disposal.

Liverpool inserted a buy-back clause into Quansah’s contract when he signed for Bayer Leverkusen at around £70m.

As the club targets a centre-back in the transfer market, Quansah is being considered for a return to Anfield, which has left fans confused as to why he was sold.

Supporters believe Quansah should have been sent out on loan instead of being sold, with one fan saying the deal “doesn’t make sense.”

Liverpool make Calvin Ramsay decision

Sources have told Football Insider that right-back will be a priority position for Liverpool in the transfer market.

There are concerns on Merseyside over Conor Bradley’s knee injury and when the 22-year-old could return to action.

Signing a new right-back could also mean the end for Calvin Ramsay at the club, with Slot not willing to give the Scotland international a chance in the team.

Ramsay has only made four senior appearances for the Reds since his arrival in 2022, so the 22-year-old could be free to leave in the summer.

Slot has failed to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who nailed down the position at Anfield before leaving for Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract last season.
