'Ripple effect' - Sky Sports reporter shares latest verdict on Rangers signing striker

Rangers are still uncertain about signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer in the final hours of the winter transfer window on Monday.

The Gers are pursuing a deal for the 24-year-old centre-forward and will be hoping to complete it before the 11pm deadline on 2 February.

Archer has emerged as a concrete target at Ibrox, with the Light Blues unable to get a deal over the line for Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi before the end of the season.

Danilo has been spotted in the Netherlands as he prepares to complete a move to NEC Nijmegen, but the coming hours will certainly be pivotal in G51.

Rangers move for Cameron Archer hinges on Premier League transfer activity

Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen and Southampton’s Adam Armstrong are all involved in a striker merry-go-round.

The French attacker is being linked to AC Milan, with the Eagles looking at Strand Larsen, which leaves Wolves wanting the Saints’ striker as a replacement.

All of this could affect whether the Gers can secure Archer, as Southampton wouldn’t want Armstrong to leave if the English forward’s move to Glasgow goes through.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on 2 February, Adam Binnie said, “Rangers head coach Danny Rohl would still like to bring a striker to the club. There’s been a chatter of a loan move for Southampton’s Cameron Archer, but that hinges on a few other moves. You were all referencing the domino effect of Mateta, Strand Larsen, Armstrong.”

The reporter added, “This actually has a ripple effect that goes all the way down to Scotland as well, because if Rangers take Archer from Southampton, they won’t want to lose Armstrong to Wolves, Wolves won’t want to lose Strand Larsen to Palace, and Palace won’t want to lose Mateta to AC Milan. So that one is 50/50. Hangs in the balance to see whether that one goes ahead.”

Archer wants to move to Ibrox, but his situation will be worth watching closely as the clock is ticking for the Light Blues to reinforce their attack.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises leave Danny Rohl short-changed

Rohl dropped points against Hibernian in the William Hill Premiership on 1 February, going back down to third in the league table.

Youssef Chermiti was once again underwhelming for Rangers up front at Ibrox, with Bojan Miovski unable to make much of an impact coming off the bench.

The lack of a reliable goalscorer will surely end any hope fans in G51 have of winning a title this season at Ibrox.

Archer’s Sofascore comparison with Chermiti and Miovski isn’t encouraging, and Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may have just dropped the ball towards the end of the transfer window.
