Aston Villa have no intention of selling midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer amid ongoing interest from Saudi Arabia, sources have told Football Insider.

The Belgian has been extensively linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in recent weeks, but it is understood that the second city outfit are not looking to exploit that opportunity at the moment.

The Villans’ financial situation could make sales necessary this summer, but sources have indicated that the 28-year-old is among the names that the club would try and keep regardless of their position.

Aston Villa’s transfer plans will be heavily dictated by their situation off the pitch, and while there is an acceptance that every player has a price, they have a clear intention for Tielemans to still be at Villa Park next season.

Tielemans has been an important member of Unai Emery’s squad once again this season, and their recent downturn in form has largely coincided with him picking up an ankle injury.

The former Leicester City man hasn’t featured since the win at Newcastle on 25 January, and the team have since won just one of their seven Premier League games in his absence.

Emery has revealed recently that Tielemans is making good progress in his recovery, but it is clear that he is still some way away from being able to return to the fold.

Injury experts Premier Injuries expect that he could potentially return for the visit of Sunderland on 18 April, but that means that Villa still have several weeks to negotiate their way through before he could return.

Tielemans is likely to miss at least another three games with his injury, while progression past Lille in the Europa League this week would take that tally up to five, with both legs of a potential quarter-final set to be played before his projected return date.

Emery will be desperate to get him back as quickly as possible, especially considering that his team face some important games in the coming weeks.

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Villa may not have breached UEFA’s squad cost rules, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.

The Villans broke the European governing body’s spending regulations last season, and have reportedly been toeing the line once again this time around, which would have seen them incur another fine.

However, Borson has heard that they may not have breached the squad cost rules this time around, which would provide a welcome reprieve for their financial situation.

He also added that Champions League qualification would be “transformational” to their fortunes when it comes to their revenue and spending capabilities for next term.
