Sources: Celtic and Rangers have to pay £5m+ and qualify for UCL to win transfer race

Silas Andersen could yet complete a move to either Celtic or Rangers this summer despite recently signing a new contract with BK Hacken, sources have told Football Insider.

The pair of Old Firm rivals were both heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old back in January, and he remains on both of their respective radars as a long-term target heading into the summer.

The midfielder is subject to interest from across Europe at the moment, and sources say that any chance of a move ahead of next season has been “complicated” by his new deal.

Andersen is now under contract with the Swedish side until the summer of 2029, and they are set to demand a fee “well in excess” of the £5-6million range for his services.

Celtic’s transfer plans are set to see them overhaul their squad this summer, and it is understood that it could still be possible for both them and Rangers to land Andersen if they can secure the financial benefits of Champions League football.

Champions League riches to make Silas Andersen dream a reality

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Celtic made around £40m from their run to the knockout stages of the Champions League last season, a figure which serves as a major financial boost in the context of Scottish football.

The finances available to teams in Europe’s premier club competition can have a transformative impact when it comes to their spending power, and it could even bring a potential deal for Andersen back to the table for the Old Firm duo this summer.

They were ultimately both put off by Hacken’s asking price for the Danish starlet during the winter window, but if Champions League riches come into play in the summer, then it could make the dream a reality.

Andersen is also attracting interest from Wolves at the moment, and it has become clear that his growing reputation will make it difficult for the pair of Scottish giants to win the race for him.

However, there is now a chance that it could be a possibility, with the financial boost that comes with Champions League qaulification capable of beingb a game-changer in pursuits like this.

Celtic set for summer rebuild in midfield

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Celtic are bracing themselves to receive offers for both Arne Engels and Reo Hatate ahead of next season.

Nottingham Forest saw three bids for Engels rejected in the final stages of the January window, while Hatate was also the subject of surprise interest from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

The Bhoys are already preparing to receive plenty more interest in the duo this summer, and they could even be sold as part of the rebuild that is set to ensue under their next manager.

Any departures in the middle of the park would see that become a key area of priority for the transfer chiefs as a result, with options already somewhat limited in that part of the squad.

Andersen could form part of that new-look midfield if it is needed, but it will take a major financial commitment from the club.
