Sources: Rangers could accept new Chermiti offer, Ibrox replacement lined up

Rangers could be tempted to accept a new offer for Youssef Chermiti before the 2 February transfer deadline if they can first land his replacement.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of strong interest from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce amid conflicting reports about whether a formal bid had been lodged.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the striker is now considered unlikely to leave Ibrox in the mid-season window.

However, if they can bring in a new striker, it might open the door for Chermiti to move on after what has been a frustrating start to his career in Glasgow.

This comes as Rangers continue to pursue Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi, with hopes of getting a deal over the line before the window closes.

Rangers could accept new Youssef Chermiti offer

Rangers have made an opening bid for Naderi already this month and remain hopeful of reaching an agreement with the German club in the coming days.

Chermiti, meanwhile, had widely been expected to leave Ibrox this month after what was a miserable start to life following his big-money move from Everton.

However, his form has improved under Danny Rohl and he remains part of the manager’s plans, meaning his departure is now growing increasingly unlikely.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously, Fenerbahce, he was on their list but I’m not too sure if an offer was made or not.

“The reports in Turkey were suggesting that no offer was made.

“I don’t think Rangers were that keen on letting Chermiti go, despite maybe the player not being consistent for them so far since his big money arrival from Everton in the summer.

“Rangers are looking to add more firepower to their squad before the end of the window.

“They’re in for a Hansa Rostock’s Ryan Naderi, if that deal was to happen then maybe something might happen with Chermiti going out.

“But I think there’ll be other players ahead of Chimiti that Rangers will be looking to probably offload, so as things stand right now, think Rangers’ plan is to keep hold of him.”

Danilo could agree Rangers exit within days

Chermiti is not the only forward being linked with a move away from Ibrox this month, with potential departures still on their radar before the deadline.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 January that Rangers could accept offers for Danilo late in the window, but only if they can land a replacement.

Rohl does not want to leave himself short of options at the top of the pitch, but a late addition to the attacking ranks would open the door for the Brazilian to move elsewhere.

Rangers’ move to sign Naderi could push Danilo out of the door rather than Chermiti, with the Brazilian currenly further down the pecking order under Rohl.

The 26-year-old hasn’t started in the league for Rangers since 3 December, but scored during a brief cameo against Dundee last time out in the SPFL.
