Stefan Borson: Liverpool can 'easily afford' Premier League star, but deal depends on outgoings
Liverpool are only likely to make a move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon if more names follow Mohamed Salah out the exit doors.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Reds will want to balance their incomings after splashing £450million last summer.
A £125million move for Alexander Isak has yet to work out at Anfield, but all of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have shown bright sparks in a disappointing season.
Now, Arne Slot’s side are strongly linked with Gordon, especially with Salah announcing his decision to depart at the end of the campaign, with a £75million transfer fee being rumoured on Merseyside.

Anthony Gordon is one to watch at Liverpool this summer
Although Gordon has been continuously linked with a move to Anfield, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that Bayern Munich is the likeliest destination for the talented winger.
“Liverpool are one of the biggest payers around, one of the biggest spenders, and I would imagine that they’ll have a decent summer,” he said.
“Part of it will depend on who goes beyond Salah. Salah obviously releases quite a lot of salary capacity. But I would still think that after last summer, they are going to want to be looking quite closely at who goes out the door to balance incomings.
Liverpool’s last summer signings Transfer fee Alexander Isak £125million Jeremie Frimpong £43million Florian Wirtz £115million Milos Kerkez £25million Hugo Ekitike £59million Giovanni Leoni £29million
“I don’t see them having hundreds of millions of net spending this summer. So we’ll have to watch what happens there. Gordon is a player that they can easily afford spread over five years salary.
“It’s in line with lots of what they already have. I don’t think that would be a challenge. That said, I still think he’s most likely to go to Bayern Munich from what we’ve seen in the press.”
What has Eddie Howe said about Gordon’s future at Newcastle United?
Some supporters are concerned that the Magpies are about to be faced with a similar situation to Isak’s departure, but Eddie Howe is trying his best to keep the situation under wraps.
A few weeks ago, the manager claimed that he wouldn’t play anyone that wasn’t 100 per cent committed to the club, and in the next game, Gordon was absolutely nowhere to be seen.
It was then cleared up that the winger had picked up a hip injury in training, seeing him miss the Magpies’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, 25 April.
Fans are still preparing themselves for th 25-year-old’s departure this summer, and while Liverpool are strongly linked, it remains to be seen if he stays in the Premier League at all.
