Super Eagles: ‘I made a few mistakes’ – Amas Obasogie speaks on match-fixing allegations

Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has responded to the match-fixing allegations that led to his suspension by his Tanzanian club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The AFCON 2025 bronze medallist insisted the claims were based on mistakes he made during a game and not any deliberate act.

The Nigerian international revealed that he was shocked to receive a letter accusing him of match-fixing, stressing that he has never been involved in match-fixing at any point in his career.

Amas Obasogie: ‘I was accused because I made mistakes’

Obasogie revealed that the accusations came immediately after a match in which he made a few errors, which were later interpreted by some officials as suspicious.

“I was surprised by the allegations. After the game, I was accused of match-fixing simply because I made a few mistakes. I received the letter and was shocked. However, God is in control, and I believe I will come out of this stronger,” he said to Footy Africa.

‘I have never fixed a match in my career’ – Super Eagles goalkeeper

The former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper strongly denied any wrongdoing and maintained that his conduct as a professional footballer speaks for itself.

“I don’t have any issues with anyone within the club. I am a peaceful person, a true professional, and disciplined. That’s why I don’t understand these allegations. I have never been involved in match-fixing in my career,” Obasogie added.

Investigation ongoing for AFCON medalist

Obasogie’s club suspended him to allow an internal investigation into the allegations, following concerns raised over his performances in recent matches.

However, no official ruling has been made by football authorities, and no formal charge has been confirmed.

The Super Eagles shot-stopper remains confident he will clear his name and return to action once the investigation is concluded.
